This kind of membership automatically applies to any current student on a University of Portsmouth course as well as Union Sabbatical Officers.

Associate Members
This kind of membership is for Union or University staff, Alumni, or students on an approved scheme at an associated University or College.

Right to Opt Out
Should you wish to opt out of membership you must send separate written notice (by writing or in email) to the President of the Students’ Union and the Vice-Chancellor of the University. If you exercise your right to opt out of membership with the Students’ Union then you will remain a non-member, withdrawing all rights of membership, for the remainder of the academic year. If you wish to opt out in subsequent years, you will need to annually write to the president to exercise your right of opt out.
Fees information
Many clubs and societies have a membership cost to cover your participation in group activities. The Union subsidises some of the full member costs for student groups to keep the cost of group membership as low as possible. Associate and affiliate memberships are offered for a small fee (£45), as the Union does not receive any extra funds from the University to subsidise these types of membership. Associate and affiliate memberships (for eligible non-students) are currently only available in person from the Union Shop, upon production of valid of proof of eligibility: For Alumni – A copy of degree/award certificate or a letter from the University of Portsmouth confirming eligibility; For Affiliate students – Affiliate students: Valid student identification, or a letter from host institution, confirming eligibility; For University Staff – Green staff campus card that is in date; and for UPSU Staff – Red staff campus card that is in date.
